I’ve been watching the online craze for a particular brand of carrier for the last year or so. As a business owner who likes to stock what my customers want, I did look into them as a brand to carry at Baby Time. But after hearing story after story from other retailers and the fiascos stocking caused I decided to not pursue it further.

Now, I get how things cycle and new items/products get super popular and a year or so later are yesterday’s dirty diapers. But you know what sticks around?

Good customer service.

These are the manufacturers I want to have in my store. Who honor warranties, who don’t intentionally understock to create a frenzy, who give local shout outs to their retailers, who send out promotional items for my annual events and best of all, I know they have my back.

Why would I give a company part of my inventory budget and my time to promote their product if it was lower quality and/or more expensive than when I currently offer? And if they intentionally sell over their retailers heads or don’t support them? No thank you.

I’ll just sit back and watch this craze from here.

Now, if you decide to order these items online, that’s fine for you. But know the power of your dollar. If you hate that these items don’t even stay in stock for you to buy them, that you pay more used than what they are worth new because of the print frenzy – don’t buy them. Don’t buy into that mentality. Put your money towards companies who do whatever they can to help you and make you happy. Better yet – you can do a double favor by buying local.

Locally, not only do I employ two lovely Cedar Rapids ladies, but I pay business taxes and have local consigners in my shop. I pay rent to a local company for my location, I buy lunch at local shops when I forget to pack mine. I support American and North American made companies whenever I can. Your dollar stays here.

Another plus to buying local?

  • I have the customer service to help you out with whatever you purchase.
  • Buy a carrier at Baby Time and come in for free fittings whenever you need help.
  • Questioning your wash routine for your diapers? I’m just a phone call or text message away or stop in and we can trouble shoot.
  • Looking for like-minded moms – we have classes and events to help build your tribe.

This is a community we are building through Baby Time. You dollar speaks to that. I will continue to stock quality products, as much USA-made as possible and provide a resources to the community. But the only way I can do that is if you shop here.  Thank you for your business!
